Fiverr Adds AI Support for Designers
/Today Fiverr, an online platform for freelanced work, launched an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to support designers. Fiverr’s AI-driven Logo Maker tool turns designers’ existing art into an on-demand customization machine (my term) by automatically producing and presenting hundreds of permutations based on inputs from prospective buyers. Logo Maker can create a complete branding package based on a selected design or use the drafts as a basis to connect the buyer with the designer for additional edits. Micha Kaufman, founder and CEO of Fiverr, says, “The future of work is one where AI supports more people, to create more with less effort.”
Fiverr’s addition to its platform is a clear application of work augmentation using AI (versus displacement). I especially am excited that it comes to us from a freelancing platform. My colleagues and I have written about the challenges and opportunities AI brings to freelanced work. One of our concerns is that some AI opportunities will be too expensive for individuals or small teams to afford. Fiverr is showing us innovative ways freelancers can access the power of AI.
Autodesk, for example, has had generative design available within Netfabb since 2018. The monthly cost is $525 (annual $4205). Certainly reasonable for large scale designers, but perhaps not if you’re offering logos for $5 -- acknowledging that some Fiverr designers charge far more.
Please share any other examples you’ve seen in the comments below. Where are the automation tools that we as individuals can apply to our work? Fiverr, Siri, Google, Zapier, Grammarly (which rewrote a passive sentence for me yesterday!), traffic reports, Microsoft Powerpoint Designer, robotic process automation….
